After looking at this weekend's fresh trade-ins I have a question for those of us who have kids.

Is it actually possible to put your kids in the car and NOT have every single surface coated with a layer of sticky sugar residue? Because it seems like that's impossible for a large percentage of people.

(not one of this weekend's trades, but similar.)

This post is coated with a layer of sticky sarcasm residue. Yes I know it's actually possible to have kids and a clean car... just... damn.

Unless going on a long trip I've never understood the need to feed/keep kids fed in the car. Even when my girls were on the bottle they survived just fine without needing the constant introduction of edible material into the mouth hole.

It also helped that car rides always put them to sleep. Even now, at 6, the youngest dozes off on the most menial of car trips.

Our cars have remained for the most part, spotless.

haha just don't feed them sugary stuff! I keep mine clean but something always happens. I just removed some ball point ink from the back seat leather in the benz.

My wife's Jeep is a frickin mess. The problem is we seem to be constantly on the move and just 2 happy meals turns the backseat into a warzone.

When I was a kid, my mom's cars tended to be a mess. Not with kiddie crap though, my mom just always makes a mess of her car.

man its a lot of work. my cruiser has white formula spots all over the seats that look like a very didn't type of passengers were involved. I'm not much of a clean freak in my car though, just try and keep the clutter down and the crayons/candy off the surfaces

My cars before kids used to be spotless. now they are just messy not food every where just messy. I don't eat in the cars nor do my kids unless its a long road trip. I have two kids BTW 19 months and 8 years old.

When/if I have children I'm getting one of those thick canvas covers they sell for people with dogs and putting that on the back seat before installing the childs seat. Floor will get weather tech mats. I figure that should take care of 90% of any potential mess.

I'd be embarrassed if I traded in a car and it looked like that.

When my brother and I were little kids, my mom would clean the Safari out after we'd get home from going somewhere, so it was never really dirty. My brother and I were never dirty kids though.

In a word, no. Everybody's experience is different, but my boys have trashed the interior of our Odyssey. When they're two rows back, it's hard to keep tabs on what they do with their candy bars, sodas, etc. I've resorted to periodic professional interior cleanings. It's quite amazing what those people are capable of cleaning. and it's worth every penny.

The pic you posted seemed to be the driver was the problem, but he/she happened to have kids

The inside of my wife's car looks like a tornado went through a shopping mall, food court included, and deposited everything it picked up into her car. My car on the other hand looks as good as one can really hope for being 15 years old with 190k. No food in my car, mostly just water to drink, clean out trash and clothes every time I get out of it.

Uh, I had some milk splatter on my back seat. Now my daughter doesn't get milk in the car. I don't understand why parents let their kids eat candy in the car. We only eat on long trips, which are followed by a cleaning.

I did this with my wife's SRX. It seriously has saved the backseat of that car. Make sure the dog cover is waterproof. I can't count the number of times I've had to rinse off dried OJ or some other random liquid.
